NIMROD Magnetohydrodynamic Code Team Homepage
NIMROD solves the fully 3D, extended-magnetohydrodynamic equations using:
- Spectral finite element discretization in two dimensions,
- Finite Fourier series in the third dimension,
- Semi-implicit and implicit temporal discretization for the range of temporal
scales found in fusion experiments,
- Bulk kinetic effects using continuum drift-kinetic closures,
- Particle and continuum methods for the effect of a minority species of
energetic particles or run-away electrons,
- Time-split integration of atomic-rate effects such as ionization and
radiation.
NIMROD has simulated aspects of a wide range of fusion experiments (tokamaks,
stellarators, spheromaks, reversed-field pinches, z-pinches, field-reversed
configurations, etc.), laboratory plasma-physics experiments and
astrophysical plasmas. Examples of NIMROD usage can be found in our NIMROD
publications, team meetings and presentations pages.
