In these simulations, the equilibrium that is
used to start the nonlinear simulations has been artificially
raised 8.5% above the best fit equilibria. This is above the
ideal marginal stability threshold so the early time behavior
is not being accurately modelled. The nonlinear behavior is
very interesting however.
The three dimensional image shows:
- Two field-lines whose integration points remain fixed in
time.
The color of the field-line indicates the temperature; the
brightness of the nodes indicates the distance along the
field-line (to aid in visualizing it).
- Temperature isosurfaces. As seen in the figure below, we
are starting with an axisymmetric equilibrium with an
inverted temperature profile.
- Heat flux on limiter wall. This is not the computational
boundary, but rather the DIII-D limiter.
